How do you refresh and recharge your inner self? It’s so easy to ignore that part of us, isn’t it?
I wish it were as easy as hitting the refresh button on my computer browser. I just did that a couple of minutes ago because a page was stuck, it wouldn’t load. I hit the refresh button and bingo, all was good.
For us as women, attending to our inner life is not that quick and easy.
Refreshing our inner soul-self takes more time and more intentionality. But it’s essential for us – and it even benefits those around us!
Here’s what you gain:
- Soulfulness (a sense of belonging and being connected to goodness)
- Strength for the journey
OK, so let’s agree that the benefits are worth it! It’s often still challenging to take the time to do it. It reminds me of doing a whole re-start on my computer or even updating the operating system. I have to close all of the programs that are up and running. The new operating system or the system update has to load and process itself. It takes even more time after that because the machine then needs to shut down completely and then re-start. In the large scheme of things it doesn’t really take that much time – but I often put it off, thinking I don’t want to take the time, not right now. When dealing with my inner soul-self and recharging and re-setting that part of me it’s similar. I often think – oh, not now, I’ll do it later. Later keeps getting put off.
For me going into nature helps me connect with my inner self. Time alone, in silence works for me too. I like to light candles and I have some bells that I strike – they emit a sweet tone that makes me smile and reminds me of the loveliness all around. The simple acts of candle lighting and bell striking are small reminders and they help, they are sort of like the quick fix of hitting the refresh button on my computer. When I need a whole re-set I need more time and I need to take it in order to stay connected. That’s when I take time to meditate, hang out in nature, and give my creative side time to create, whatever it wants to create. And then I go back to my to-do list and my daily life, refreshed. I find I now have renewed strength for the journey.
Every so often I need even more. I need time with women soulmates, more concentrated time alone, longer sessions in the woods. And I love my companions that I get to share my insights with – they affirm the goodness of the process and the benefits of taking time for me. They share their stories of real life, real challenge, and renewal. Ahhh, to be connected is lovely!
